$15 Revisiting Bill Simon's Gerald first describes his version of the move. This in-the-hands handling accomplishes the move using natural movements in spreading the cards. Neither hand turns over when performing the sleight as in the original version. Gerald applies the principles in his book The Ostrich Factor to produce entertaining routines. The treatise also gives methods to position secretly the top and bottom cards and false shuffles to retain them in position.

$15 Versions of Dai Vernon's Out of Sight-Out of Mind, Some aficionados consider Dai Vernon's "Out of Sight-Out of Mind" from More Inner Secrets of Card Magic the best mindreading trick with an ordinary deck of cards. Since the spectator does not remove a card from the deck but only thinks of a card, it makes a terrific mindreading trick. Erdnase explores the principle in "A Mindreading Trick" in Expert at the Card Table. Vernon used the principle to construct his trick. Gerald keeps the exact effect of Vernon's original trick. In "Only in Your Mind", he uses adaptations of the Overhand Lift Shuffle and constructs a completely different handling of the trick. Some handlings of the Lift Shuffle and its uses differ from those described in Royal Road to Card Magic. Gerald includes an explanation of his treatment of the sleight and some of its uses. Inspired by Vernon's trick, Gerald's friend Lonnie Chevrie had an excellent idea for handing out a souvenir card to a spectator. Using the idea, Gerald worked out his version explained in the "Souvenir Fingerprint Card Trick". It became one of Gerald's favorite card tricks for the laity. Visit Wasshuber's site: lybrary.com |

$25 My Favorite Card Magic My Favorite Card Magic explains tricks with straight-forward plots, classic methods and direct handlings. Gerald prefers routines which can be performed under the most demanding conditions. The tricks do require practice and skillful handling. But you'll not find "knuckle busting" sleights or complex procedures. Part Two highlights the Robson Poker Deal. Many of the good poker deals (Marlo Gardner Poker Deal, the Lorayne Poker Deal, etc.) involve re-deal stacking (dealing the cards out twice to stack the deck for the desired result). The Robson Poker Deal does not employ re-deal stacking or advanced skills. Gerald's version of the Robson Poker Deal simulates accurately a real-life game of five-card draw poker. From a shuffled and cut deck, spectators choose how many five-card draw hands to deal. After the first deal, spectators can switch hands around and can even choose which hand the performer receives. Cards may be discarded and drawn by the spectators for their hands, just as in a real-life five-card draw poker game. The performer gets the four aces to win! You end "clean" after you gather the cards. Visit Wasshuber's site: lybrary.com |
